RMC Recognized for Participation in Surgery Improvement ProjectJune 21, 2005RMC was recently recognized with a plaque for participation in the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) special study.
SCIP is a demonstration project to show the feasibility of developing surgery quality indicators on a national level. The project is a collaboration between CMS and Health Care Excel. Hospitals in Kentucky, Ohio, and Oklahoma voluntarily participated in the project. Of the 16 hospitals in Kentucky that participated, 5, 330 surgeries were completed, with RMC contributing 3.5% of that total. Surgeries covered in the project were: cardiac, major vascular, major colon and rectal, and hysterectomies. Hospitals collected and reported data relevant to quality measures, outcomes, and risk adjustment. In July, CMS will finalize review indicators, with data collection beginning nationally in January 2006.
Thank you to Sarah Almon, Cheri Edelen, and Theresia Renner for gathering data and chart reviews and to Karla Durham in IS for her assistance on the project.
