Guest Services Center opens at RMC

October 5, 2006

Trover Hires Longtime Banker McMurtrie-
Jim McMurtrie has left the banking business to return to the ministry — but he’s not working in a church.

McMurtrie has been named director of guest services at Trover Foundation. That’s a new position within the Madisonville-based health care organization.

His responsibilities include volunteer services and pastoral care.

Details of the new program have not been finalized.

McMurtrie was vice president of business development and public relations for First United Bank when he decided to make the career change.

He previously served as minister of music and youth for First Baptist Church in Madisonville. He is director of the Madisonville Community Chorus and the Madisonville Community College Singers.

McMurtrie started his new position Aug. 21.

“I just feel like it is an extension of the ministry opportunity,” he said. “I care about people and I feel like I can meet needs in certain areas. ... This has just become a God thing.”

When he learned of the opportunity with the foundation, he thought the position would interest him.

“I’ve always just had a tremendous respect for Trover Foundation, the hospital, clinic, everything to do with that,” McMurtrie said.

Regional Medical Center Chaplain Bill McCann will still provide pastoral care, but he will be working with McMurtrie, Barton said.

Volunteer Services coordinator Mary Frances Hartford will retire Friday.

“She has been an icon here at Regional Medical Center,” Barton said. “Obviously, we are very appreciative of the work she and the volunteers have done through the years.

“I think the volunteers are very excited about Jim coming along because he has been so active in the community and worked a lot in the church and the music community,” Barton said. “I think they’re just really pleased to have him here. I know that we are. It’s always great when someone of his stature in the community thinks enough of this organization to want to join our team.”
